Social Media Content without Tracking

Software Embetty

Social media services, when embedded as plug-ins on websites to display tweets for example, grab information from every visitor of the website.

heise online has developed the open source project Embetty, which prevents this.

It works as a kind of proxy server that delivers the content to be displayed. Only when the tweet is actively clicked, user data is transmitted to Twitter.

Currently, the software can handle the following content types: Tweets, YouTube videos, Vimeo videos and Facebook videos.

THE SERVUS APPROACH

At servus, Embetty is now running through the Docker container provided at embetty.servus.at. This is the Embetty server that you can use if you want to use it on your website.
